Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VII, § 1. Primary decomposition of linear representations

Assume that kk is perfect and of characteristic 2. Let h=sl(2,k)\mathfrak{h}=\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(2, k), and

let M be the h\mathfrak{h}-module kk (for the identity map of h\mathfrak{h}). If x=x= is an

arbitrary element of h\mathfrak{h}, denote by λ(x)\lambda (x) the unique λ∈k\lambda \in k such that λ2=a2+bc\lambda^2=a^2+bc. A calculation shows immediately that M=Mλ(h)M = M^{\lambda}(\mathfrak{h}); on the other hand, Mλ(h)=0M_{\lambda}(\mathfrak{h}) = 0 and λ\lambda is neither linear nor zero on [h,h][\mathfrak{h},\mathfrak{h}], even though h\mathfrak{h} is nilpotent.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
