Spectral Theories, III, p. 122
Let U be a connected open set of C. We denote by H(U) the space of holomorphic functions on U endowed with the topology of compact convergence (EVT III, p. 10, example d)).
a) Let a∈H(U). Multiplication by a is a Fredholm endomorphism of H(U) if and only if the set of zeros of a is finite. Calculate its index in that case.
b) Let U=(Ui)i∈I be a covering of U by non-empty connected open sets. We put
I2={(i,j)∈I×I∣Ui∩Uj=∅}
I3={(i,j,k)∈I×I×I∣Ui∩Uj∩Uk=∅}
We consider the vector spaces
Z1(U;C)={(ci,j)∈CI2∣cij+cjk+cki=0 for all (i,j,k)∈I3}
B1(U;C)={(ci,j)∈CI2∣ there exists c′∈CI such that
cij=ci′−cj′ for all (i,j)∈I2}.
We have B1(U;C)⊂Z1(U;C). We put
H1(U;C)=Z1(U;C)/B1(U;C)
Let V=(Vα)α∈A be a covering of U by non-empty connected open sets, finer than U, and let ϱ:A→I be a mapping such that Vα⊂Uϱ(α) for all α∈A.
The mapping (cij)i,j↦(cϱ(α)ϱ(β))α,β induces a linear mapping, independent of the choice of ϱ, from H1(U;C) into H1(V;C).
We denote by H1(U;C) the inductive limit of the vector spaces H1(U;C) endowed with these linear mappings, when U runs through the set of coverings of U by non-empty connected open sets.
c) Let D be the endomorphism of H(U) defined by Df=f′. Prove that there exists an isomorphism of vector spaces from the cokernel of D onto H1(U;C). Deduce that D is a Fredholm endomorphism if and only if the space H1(U;C) is of finite dimension. Calculate then the index of D.
