Exercise 35, § 2

Commutative Algebra, IV, 301

It is set in small type as supplementary.

Let KK be a commutative field, BB the valuation ring, whose order group is R\mathbf{R}, consisting of the "formal power series" ∑xcxTx\sum_x c_x T^x, where cx∈K, x∈R+c_x \in K,\ x \in \mathbf{R}_+ and the set of xx such that cx≠0c_x \neq 0 is well ordered; the ring AA defined in § 1, Exercise 2 is a subring of BB and BB is a flat AA-module. If CC is the AA-module defined in § 1, Exercise 2, show that Ass⁡B(C⊗AB)≠∅\operatorname{Ass}_B(C \otimes_A B) \neq \varnothing although Ass⁡A(C)=∅\operatorname{Ass}_A(C) = \varnothing (consider an element of C⊗AB=B/aBC \otimes_A B = B/aB the canonical image of an element of BB of valuation aa). \*
