Theory of Sets, I, 59

Let RR and SS be relations in T\mathscr{T}, let TT be a term in T\mathscr{T}, and let xx and yy be distinct letters. Suppose that yy is not a constant of TT and that xx does not appear in TT. Let T′\mathscr{T}' be the theory obtained by adjoining SS to the axioms of T\mathscr{T}. If RR is functional in xx in T′\mathscr{T}', and if (T∣y)S(T|y)S is a theorem in T\mathscr{T}, then the relation (T∣y)R(T|y)R is functional in XX in T\mathscr{T}.
