Functions of a Real Variable, I, 45

Show that every convex function ff on a compact interval I⊂RI \subset \mathbf{R} is the limit of a decreasing uniformly convergent sequence of convex functions on II which admit a second derivative on II (first consider the function (x−a)+(x-a)^+, and approximate ff by the sum of an affine linear function and a linear combination ∑jcj(x−aj)+\sum_j c_j (x-a_j)^+ with coefficients cj≥0c_j \geq 0).
