Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, VIII, 264

Assume that g\mathfrak{g} is semi-simple.

a) Let (x,h,y)(x, h, y) be a principal sl2\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}_2-triplet in g\mathfrak{g}, and let b\mathfrak{b} be the Borel subalgebra containing xx (Exerc. 7). Show that b\mathfrak{b} is contained in Im ad xx.

b) Assume that kk is algebraically closed. Show that, for any element zz in g\mathfrak{g}, there exist x,t∈gx, t\in \mathfrak{g}, with xx principal nilpotent, such that z=[x,t]z= [x, t] (apply aa) to a Borel subalgebra containing z).
