Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, VIII, 262

Let VV be a vector space of dimension n⩾2n\geqslant2, g=sl(V)\mathfrak g=\mathfrak{sl}(V) and G=PGL(V)G=\mathrm{PGL}(V), identified with a group of automorphisms of g\mathfrak g. An sl2\mathfrak{sl}_2-triplet in g\mathfrak g gives VV a faithful sl(2,k)\mathfrak{sl}(2,k)-module structure, and conversely any such structure arises from an sl2\mathfrak{sl}_2-triplet; an sl2\mathfrak{sl}_2-triplet is principal if and only if the corresponding sl(2,k)\mathfrak{sl}(2,k)-module is simple; two sl2\mathfrak{sl}_2-triplets are G-conjugate if and only if the corresponding sl(2,k)\mathfrak{sl}(2,k)-modules are isomorphic. Deduce that the G-conjugacy classes of sl2\mathfrak{sl}_2-triplets correspond bijectively with the families (m1,m2,…)(m_1,m_2,\ldots) of integers ⩾0\geqslant0 such that

m1+2m2+3m3+⋯=nandm1<n. m_1+2m_2+3m_3+\cdots=n \qquad\text{and}\qquad m_1<n.
