Exercise 16, § 3

General Topology, I, 125

Let XX be a non-empty topological space and RR an equivalence relation on XX. Show that if X/RX/R is regarded as a subset of P0(X)\mathfrak{P}_0(X), then the quotient topology on X/RX/R is coarser than the topologies induced on X/RX/R by the topologies TΩ\mathfrak{T}_\Omega and TΦ\mathfrak{T}_\Phi on P0(X)\mathfrak{P}_0(X) (§ 2, Exercise 7).
