Exercise 5, Appendix 0

General Topology, IX, 269

a) Let GG be a complete group such that every neighbourhood of the identity element ee in GG contains an open subgroup of GG. Show that a sequence (xn)(x_n) of points of GG is multipliable if and only if lim⁡n→∞xn=e\lim_{n \to \infty} x_n = e.

b) Let GG be a complete group in which every neighbourhood of ee contains a normal open subgroup of GG. Show that a family (xi)i∈I(x_i)_{i \in I} of points of GG is multipliable if and only if lim⁡xi=e\lim x_i = e with respect to the filter of complements of finite subsets of II (use Exercise 3).
