Algebra, VIII, p. 442, Appendix 1. Algebras without Unit Element

Let M be a semisimple left A-pseudomodule, and let xx be an element of M. There exists an element a∈Aa\in A such that ax=xax=x.

Let N be the left A-pseudomodule A~x/Ax\widetilde{A}x/Ax. It satisfies AN ={0}=\{0\}. By Corollary 3 of VIII, p. 56 applied to the A~\widetilde{A}-modules M and A~x\widetilde{A}x, the A-pseudomodule N is semisimple. By definition, every simple sub-pseudomodule S of N satisfies AS ≠{0}\not=\{0\}. Consequently, the pseudomodule N is zero, and we obtain that x∈Axx\in Ax.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
