Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, VII, 51

Assume that kk has characteristic zero. Let g=sl(3,k)\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(3, k) and let a\mathfrak{a} be the subalgebra of g\mathfrak{g} generated by a diagonal matrix with eigenvalues 1,−1,01,-1,0. Show that a\mathfrak{a} is reductive in g\mathfrak{g}, that the commutant m\mathfrak{m} of a\mathfrak{a} in g\mathfrak{g} consists of the diagonal matrices of trace zero, and that the commutant of m\mathfrak{m} in g\mathfrak{g} is equal to m\mathfrak{m}, and hence is distinct from a\mathfrak{a} (cf. no. 5, Remark).
