Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VIII, § 4. Split semi-simple Lie algebra defined by a reduced root system

Let μ∈Q\mu\in Q, and assume that μ\mu is not a multiple of a root. There exists w∈W(R)w\in W(R) such that certain of the coordinates of wμw\mu with respect to the basis B are >0>0 and certain of them are <0<0.

Let VRV_{\mathbf{R}} be the vector space Q⊗ZRQ\otimes_{\mathbf{Z}}\mathbf{R}, in which R is a root system. By the assumption, there exists f∈VR∗f\in V^*_{\mathbf{R}} such that ⟨f,α⟩≠0\langle f, \alpha \rangle \not= 0 for all α∈R\alpha \in R, and ⟨f,μ⟩=0\langle f, \mu\rangle = 0. There exists a chamber C of R∨R^{\vee} such that f∈Cf\in C. By Chap. VI, §1, no. 5, Th. 2 (i), there exists w∈W(R)w\in W(R) such that wfwf belongs to the chamber associated to B, in other words such that ⟨wf,α⟩>0\langle wf, \alpha \rangle >0 for all α∈B\alpha \in B. Write wμ=∑α∈Btααw\mu=\sum_{\alpha\in B}t_{\alpha}\alpha. Then

0=⟨f,μ⟩=⟨wf,wμ⟩=∑α∈Btα⟨wf,α⟩ 0 =\langle f, \mu\rangle =\langle wf, w\mu\rangle =\sum_{\alpha\in B}t_{\alpha}\langle wf, \alpha \rangle

which proves that certain tαt_{\alpha} are >0>0 and others are <0<0.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
