Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

Let V and V′V' be two g\mathfrak{g}-modules. Then V′V' is said to be subordinate to V if there exists a linear map f:V→V′f: V\rightarrow V' such that:

α)f\alpha )f is surjective; β)\beta ) the image under ff of a primitive element of V is either 0 or a primitive element of V′;γ)fV';\gamma )f is an n−\mathfrak{n}_--homomorphism.

a) Let f:V→V′f: V\rightarrow V' satisfy α),β),γ)\alpha ),\beta ),\gamma ). Let vv be a primitive element of V. Then the image under ff of the g\mathfrak{g}-submodule generated by vv is the g\mathfrak{g}-submodule generated by f(v)f(v).

b) Let f:V→V′f: V\rightarrow V' satisfy α),β),γ)\alpha ),\beta ),\gamma ). Let W be a g\mathfrak{g}-submodule of V. Then f(W)f(W) is a g\mathfrak{g}-submodule of V′V' that is subordinate to W.

c) Let V=E1⊕⋯⊕EsV = E_1\oplus \cdots \oplus E_s and V′=E1′⊕⋯Es′′V'= E'_1\oplus \cdots E'_{s'} be decompositions of V and V′V' into sums of simple modules. Then V′V' is subordinate to V if and only if s′≤ss'\leq s and there exists σ∈Ss\sigma \in \mathfrak{S}_s such that Ei′E'_i is subordinate to Eσ(i)E_{\sigma(i)} for i=1,...,s′i= 1, . . . , s'.

d) If V′V' is subordinate to V and if V is simple, then V′V' is simple or reduced to 0.

e) Assume that V and V′V' are simple. Let λ\lambda and λ′\lambda ' be their highest weights. Then V′V' is subordinate to V if and only if λ′(Hα)≤λ(Hα)\lambda '(H_{\alpha})\leq \lambda (H_{\alpha}) for all α∈B\alpha \in B. (For the sufficiency, use the preceding exercise.)
