Topologie algébrique, chapter III, § 1. Homotopies, homéotopies

Let X and Y be topological spaces and let f:X→Yf: X\rightarrow Y be a continuous mapping. The following conditions are equivalent:

(i) For every topological space Z and every continuous mapping g:X→Zg: X\rightarrow Z, there exists a continuous mapping g′:Y→Zg': Y\rightarrow Z such that g=g= g′∘fg'\circ f;

(ii) The mapping ff is injective and possesses a continuous retraction ;

(iii) The mapping ff defines a homeomorphism of X onto its image f(X)f(X), which is a retract of Y.

Suppose that ff is injective and that r:Y→r: Y\rightarrow X is a continuous retraction of the mapping ff. For every continuous mapping g:X→Zg: X\rightarrow Z, the mapping g′=g∘r:Y→Zg'=g\circ r: Y\rightarrow Z satisfies g′∘f=g∘r∘f=gg'\circ f=g\circ r\circ f=g. This proves that (ii)⇒\Rightarrow(i).

Suppose that condition (i) is satisfied. Let g:X→Xg: X\rightarrow X be the identity mapping. By hypothesis, there exists a continuous mapping g′:Y→Xg': Y\rightarrow X such that g′∘f=gg'\circ f=g. This implies that the mapping ff is injective and that g′g' is a continuous retraction of ff.

The equivalence of the properties (ii) and (iii) is immediate.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
