Topologie algébrique, chapter III, § 1. Homotopies, homéotopies

Let X and B be topological spaces, let A be a subspace of B, and let f:A→Xf: A\rightarrow X be a continuous mapping.

a) If the pair (B,A)(B,A) has the homotopy extension property, the same is true of the pair (X∪fB,αf(X))(X\cup_fB, \alpha_f(X)).

b) Suppose that the mapping ff is injective and strict. If the pair (X,f(A))(X, f(A)) has the homotopy extension property, the same is true of the pair (X∪fB,βf(B))(X\cup_fB, \beta_f(B)).

a) Suppose that the pair (B,A)(B,A) has the homotopy extension property. Let Z be a topological space, let u:X∪fB→Zu: X\cup_fB\rightarrow Z be a continuous mapping, and let σ:αf(X)×I→Z\sigma :\alpha_f(X)\times \mathbf{I}\rightarrow Z be a homotopy whose final term is the restriction of uu to the subspace αf(X)\alpha_f(X).

Let us put v1=u∘αfv_1=u\circ \alpha_f and denote by τ1:X×I→Z\tau_1: X\times \mathbf{I}\rightarrow Z the mapping given by (x,t)↦σ(αf(x),t)(x, t)\mapsto \sigma (\alpha_f(x), t). Put v2=u∘βfv_2=u\circ \beta_f. Since βf∣A=αf∘f\beta_f|A =\alpha_f\circ f, the mapping from A×IA\times \mathbf{I} into Z which maps (a,t)(a, t) to σ(αf(f(a)),t)\sigma (\alpha_f(f(a)), t) for a∈Aa\in A and t∈It\in \mathbf{I} is a homotopy whose final term is equal to the mapping v2∣Av_2|A. Since the pair (B,A)(B,A) has the homotopy extension property, there exists a homotopy τ2:B×I→Z\tau_2: B\times \mathbf{I}\rightarrow Z whose final term is the mapping v2v_2 and such that τ2(a,t)=σ(αf(f(a)),t)\tau_2(a, t) =\sigma (\alpha_f(f(a)), t) for (a,t)∈A×I(a, t)\in A\times \mathbf{I}.

For a∈Aa\in A and t∈It\in \mathbf{I}, we have τ2(a,t)=τ1(f(a),t)\tau_2(a, t) =\tau_1(f(a), t). By Proposition 8, there exists a unique continuous mapping σ:(X∪fB)×I→Z\sigma : (X\cup_fB)\times \mathbf{I}\rightarrow Z such that σ(αf(x),t)=σ1(x,t)\sigma (\alpha_f(x), t) =\sigma_1(x, t) and σ(βf(b),t)=σ2(b,t)\sigma (\beta_f(b), t) =\sigma_2(b, t), for x∈Xx\in X, b∈Bb\in B and t∈It\in \mathbf{I}. It is a homotopy with final term uu which extends τ\tau, hence assertion a).

b) In view of Example 2 (III, p. 249), assertion b) follows from assertion a).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
