Théories spectrales, chapter I, § 1. Spectres et caractères

Let A be a unital algebra over K, and let ee be its unit element. For every x∈Ax\in A, the spectrum of xx relative to A is the set of λ∈K\lambda \in K such that λe−x\lambda e-x is not invertible.

The spectrum of xx will be denoted by SpA(x)_A(x), or Sp(xx) if no confusion can result. The complement of SpA(x)_A(x) in K is called the resolvent set of xx.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
