Théories spectrales, chapter I, § 4. Calcul fonctionnel holomorphe

Let n⩾1n\geqslant 1 be an integer. Let a∈An\boldsymbol{a}\in A^n. For every open neighbourhood U of Spn(a)^n(\boldsymbol{a}), there exists an envelope of (a,U)(\boldsymbol{a},U).

Let (aλ)λ∈Λ(a_{\lambda})_{\lambda\in\Lambda} be a family of elements of A extending the family a\boldsymbol{a} and generating the unital Banach algebra A topologically. Let π\pi be the canonical projection of CΛ\mathbf{C}^{\Lambda} onto Cn\mathbf{C}^n and let U′=π−1(U)U'=\pi^{-1}(U). Then U′U' is a neighbourhood of SpΛ((aλ))^{\Lambda}((a_{\lambda})), and SpΛ((aλ))^{\Lambda}((a_{\lambda})) is polynomially convex (I, p. 44, lemma 4). By lemma 6 of I, p. 47, there exists a finite subset Λ0\Lambda_0 of Λ containing {1,2,...,n}\{1,2, . . . , n\} such that prΛ0(U′)_{\Lambda_0}(U') contains the polynomially convex envelope S of prΛ0_{\Lambda_0}(SpΛ((aλ)λ∈Λ)^{\Lambda}((a_{\lambda})_{\lambda\in\Lambda})) == SpΛ0((aλ)λ∈Λ0)^{\Lambda_0}((a_{\lambda})_{\lambda\in\Lambda_0}). Let p⩾0p\geqslant 0 be the integer such that Λ0\Lambda_0 has cardinal n+pn+p, and let jj be a bijection of {1,...,n+p}\{1, . . . , n+p\} onto Λ0\Lambda_0 which coincides with the identical mapping on {1,...,n}\{1, . . . , n\}. Since the projection of S is contained in U, the family (aj(k))1⩽k⩽n+p(a_{j(k)})_{1\leqslant k\leqslant n+p} is an envelope of (a,U)(\boldsymbol{a},U).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
