Théories spectrales, chapter I, § 4. Calcul fonctionnel holomorphe

Let A be a unital Banach algebra, a∈Aa\in A and U an open neighbourhood of SpA(a)_A(a). Let δ\delta denote the distance from SpA(a)_A(a) to C−\mathbf{C}- U. Let f∈O(U)f\in \mathscr{O}(U).

a) For every real number η\eta such that 0<η<δ0< \eta < \delta, there exists a real number C⩾0C\geqslant 0 such that ∥f(n)(a)∥⩽Cn\|f^{(n)}(a)\|\leqslant Cn!η−n\eta^{-n} for every integer n∈Nn\in \mathbf{N};

b) If b∈Ab\in A commutes with aa and if ϱ(b)<δ\varrho (b)< \delta, one has SpA(a+b)⊂U_A(a+b)\subset U, and

∞(n)\infty (n)

f(a+b)=∑fnf(a+b) =\sum fn!(a)bn(a)b^n,

n=0n=0

where the series converges absolutely.

Let η\eta be a real number such that 0<η<δ0< \eta < \delta. Put ε=δ−η>0\varepsilon =\delta -\eta >0. Let K be the compact neighbourhood of SpA(a)_A(a) formed by the points of C\mathbf{C} whose distance from SpA(a)_A(a) is ⩽ε/2\leqslant \varepsilon /2. Since ff is holomorphic in every open disk of radius η+ε/2\eta +\varepsilon /2 whose center belongs to K, there exists, by Cauchy's inequalities (VAR, R1, p. 29, 3.3.4), a real number C⩾0C\geqslant 0 such that

supz∈K∣f(nn)_{z\in K}|f^(\overset{n)}{n}!(z)∣⩽Cηn(z)|\leqslant \frac{C}{\eta^n}

for every integer n⩾0n\geqslant 0. Then assertion a) results from Prop. 1 of I, p. 61 applied to f(n)f^{(n)} and to a piece V contained in K.

Let bb be an element of A commuting with aa such that ϱ(b)<δ\varrho (b)< \delta. Replacing A by the full closed subalgebra B generated by aa and bb, which satisfies SpA(a)=_A(a) = SpB(a)_B(a) and SpA(a+b)=_A(a+b) = SpB(a+b)_B(a+b), one is reduced, in order to prove b), to the case where A is commutative.

Since ϱ(b)<δ\varrho (b)< \delta, one can choose η\eta such that ϱ(b)<η<δ\varrho (b)< \eta < \delta. Let V1V_1 be the set of points of C\mathbf{C} whose distance from SpA(a)_A(a) is <δ−η< \delta -\eta, and V2V_2 the open disk with center 0 and radius η\eta in C\mathbf{C}. Let gg be the mapping (z1,z2)↦z1+z2(z_1, z_2)\mapsto z_1+z_2 of V1×V2V_1\times V_2 into U. Then h=f∘gh=f\circ g is the mapping (z1,z2)↦f(z1+z2)(z_1, z_2)\mapsto f(z_1+z_2) of V1×V2V_1\times V_2 into C\mathbf{C}. One has SpA2(a,b)⊂V1×V2^2_A(a, b)\subset V_1\times V_2, hence SpA(a+b)⊂U_A(a+b)\subset U (cf. cor. 2 of I, p. 67), and moreover f(a+b)=h(a,b)f(a+b) =h(a, b) by th. 4 of I, p. 72. Now, in the space O(V1×V2)\mathscr{O}(V_1\times V_2), one has

h(z1,z2)=∑n⩾0f(nn)(h(z_1, z_2) =\sum_{n\geqslant 0}f^{(n}\overset{)}{n}(!z1)z2nz_1)z_2^n,

(VAR, R1, p. 29, 3.3.4) hence the series

∑f(nn)\sum f^(\overset{n)}{n}!(a)bn(a)b^n

n⩾0n\geqslant 0 converges in A and its sum is h(a,b)=f(a+b)h(a, b) =f(a+b). Moreover, this series is absolutely convergent by assertion a).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
