Theory of Sets, I, 60

Show that if the scheme (R⇔S)⇒(τx(R)=τx(S))(R \Leftrightarrow S) \Rightarrow (\tau_x(R) = \tau_x(S)) provides implicit axioms in T\mathscr{T}, then x=yx = y is a theorem in T\mathscr{T}. (Take RR to be the relation x=xx = x, SS the relation x=yx = y, and then substitute xx for yy in the axiom thus obtained.) [^1]

[^1]: We shall see that in the theory of sets (∃x)(∃v)(x≠y)(\exists x)(\exists v)(x \neq y) is a theorem (Chapter II, § 1, Exercise 2).
