Commutative Algebra, chapter II, § 2. Rings and modules of fractions

Let A,B,CA, B, C be three rings, SS (resp. T,UT, U) a multiplicative subset of AA (resp. B,CB, C), f:A→Bf : A \to B, g:B→Cg : B \to C two homomorphisms and h:A→Ch : A \to C the composite homomorphism g∘fg \circ f; suppose that f(S)⊂Tf(S) \subset T, g(T)⊂Ug(T) \subset U. Let f′:A[S−1]→B[T−1]f' : A[S^{-1}] \to B[T^{-1}], g′:B[T−1]→C[U−1]g' : B[T^{-1}] \to C[U^{-1}], h′:A[S−1]→C[U−1]h' : A[S^{-1}] \to C[U^{-1}] the homomorphisms corresponding to f,g,hf, g, h; then h′=g′∘f′h' = g' \circ f'.

This follows easily from the definitions.

In particular, if S,T,US, T, U are three multiplicative subsets of AA such that S⊂T⊂US \subset T \subset U, then iAU,S=iAU,T∘iAT,Si_A^{U,S} = i_A^{U,T} \circ i_A^{T,S}.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
