Commutative Algebra, chapter II, § 4. Spectra of rings and supports of modules

Let XX be a topological space. Every irreducible subset of XX is contained in an irreducible component of XX and XX is the union of its irreducible components.

To prove the first assertion, it is sufficient, by virtue of Zorn's Lemma, to prove that the set 3 of irreducible subsets of XX is inductive. Let G\mathscr{G} be a subset of S\mathfrak{S} totally ordered by inclusion; we show that the union EE of the sets F∈GF \in \mathscr{G} is irreducible. Let U,VU, V be two open sets of XX which meet EE; as G\mathscr{G} is totally ordered, there exists a set F∈GF \in \mathscr{G} meeting UU and VV; as FF is irreducible, U∩VU \cap V meets FF and hence also EE, which proves that EE is irreducible and hence that 3 is inductive. The second assertion follows from the first, for every subset of XX consisting of a single point is irreducible.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
