Commutative Algebra, chapter II, § 4. Spectra of rings and supports of modules

Let AA be a ring. The set XX of prime ideals of AA, with the topology whose closed sets are the sets V(M)V(M), where MM runs through P(A)\mathfrak{P}(A), is called the prime spectrum of AA and denoted by Spec(A)\mathrm{Spec}(A). The topology thus defined is called the spectral or Zariski topology on XX.

Clearly the relation Spec(A)=∅\mathrm{Spec}(A) = \varnothing is equivalent to A={0}A = \{0\}.

Let XX be the prime spectrum of a ring AA; for all f∈Af \in A, let us denote by XfX_f the set of prime ideals of AA not containing ff; then Xf=X−V(f)X_f = X - V(f) and XfX_f is therefore an open set. By (2), every closed subset of XX is an intersection of closed sets of the form V(f)V(f) and hence the XX, form a base of the spectral topology on XX. Moreover, it follows immediately from the definitions that

X0=O,X1=X, X_0 = O,\quad X_1 = X,

and more generally Xf−1=XX_{f^{-1}} = X for every invertible element ff of AA;

Xg−1=X,nX,for all f,g in A. X_{g^{-1}} = X, nX, \quad \text{for all } f, g \text{ in } A.

For every subset YY of XX, let us denote by J(Y)\mathfrak{J}(Y) the intersection of the prime ideals of AA which belong to YY. Clearly J(Y)\mathfrak{J}(Y) is an ideal of AA and the mapping Y↦J(Y)Y \mapsto \mathfrak{J}(Y) is decreasing with respect to inclusion in XX and AA. Clearly the relations

J(∅)=A \mathfrak{J}(\varnothing) = A
J(⋃λ∈LYλ)=⋂λ∈LJ(Yλ) \mathfrak{J}\left( \bigcup_{\lambda \in L} Y_\lambda \right) = \bigcap_{\lambda \in L} \mathfrak{J}(Y_\lambda)

hold for every family (Yλ)λ∈L(Y_\lambda)_{\lambda \in L} of subsets of XX. Moreover:

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
