Commutative Algebra, chapter II, § 4. Spectra of rings and supports of modules

Let AA be a ring and MM an AA-module. (i) If NN is a submodule of MM, then

Supp⁡(M)=Supp⁡(N)∪Supp⁡(M/N). \operatorname{Supp}(M) = \operatorname{Supp}(N) \cup \operatorname{Supp}(M/N).
(ii) If MM is the sum of a family (Ni)i∈I(N_i)_{i \in I} of submodules, then
Supp⁡(M)=⋃i∈ISupp⁡(Ni). \operatorname{Supp}(M) = \bigcup_{i \in I} \operatorname{Supp}(N_i).
(i) From the exact sequence 0→N→M→M/N→00 \to N \to M \to M/N \to 0, we derive, for every prime ideal pp of AA, the exact sequence
0→Np→Mp→(M/N)p→0 0 \to N_p \to M_p \to (M/N)_p \to 0
(§ 2, no. 4, Theorem 1). For MM, to be reduced to 0, it is necessary and sufficient that NpN_p and (M/N)p(M/N)_p be so. In other words, the relation p∉Supp⁡(M)p \notin \operatorname{Supp}(M) is equivalent to "p ∉Supp⁡(N)\notin \operatorname{Supp}(N) and p∉Supp⁡(M/N)p \notin \operatorname{Supp}(M/N)", which proves (i). (ii) For every prime ideal pp of AA, MM, is the sum of the family of submodules (Ni)p(N_i)_p (§ 2, no. 4). To say that M,≠0M, \neq 0 means that there exists i∈Ii \in I such that (Ni)p≠0(N_i)_p \neq 0, whence (ii).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
