Commutative Algebra, chapter III, § 2. General results on filtered rings and modules

Let A be a commutative ring and tt an element of A which is not a divisor of 0. Let us give A the (t)-*adic filtration* (no. 1, Example 3). Then the associated graded ring gr(A)\mathrm{gr}(A) is canonically isomorphic to the polynomial ring (A/(t))[X](A/(t))[X]. For grn(A)=0\mathrm{gr}_n(A) = 0 for n<0n < 0 and by definition the ring gr0(A)\mathrm{gr}_0(A) is the ring A/(t)A/(t). We now note that by virtue of the hypothesis on tt the relation atn≡0at^n \equiv 0 (mod. tn+1t^{n+1}) is equivalent to a≡0a \equiv 0 (mod. tt); if τ\tau is the canonical image of tt in gr1(A)\mathrm{gr}_1(A), every element of grn(A)\mathrm{gr}_n(A) may then be written uniquely in the form ατn\alpha \tau^n where α∈gr0(A)\alpha \in \mathrm{gr}_0(A); whence our assertion.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
