Commutative Algebra, chapter VI, § 8. Extensions of a valuation to an algebraic extension

The index [pv:Γv′][\mathfrak{p}_v : \Gamma_{v'}] is called the ramification index of v′v' over vv (or over K\mathbf{K}*) and denoted by* e(v′/v)e(v'/v) (or e(A′/A)e(A'/A), or sometimes e(L/K)e(L/K)*).

This index is a natural number or +∞+\infty. If v0′v'_0 is a valuation equivalent to v′v', e(v′/v)e(v'/v) is also called the ramification index of v0′v'_0 over vv. If e(v′/v)=1e(v'/v) = 1, v′v' is called unramified over vv.

On the other hand the residue field κ(A)\kappa(\mathbf{A}) of vv is identified with a subfield of the residue field κ(A′)\kappa(\mathbf{A}') of v′v'.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
