Algebra, chapter I, § 4. Groups and groups with operators

Every commutative simple group is cyclic of prime order.

Let G be such a group. Then G≠{e}G \neq \{e\}; let a≠ea \neq e be an element of G. The subgroup generated by a is normal since G is commutative, it is not reduced to {e}\{e\} and hence is equal to G. Therefore G is monogenous and hence isomorphic to a group of the form Z/pZ\mathbf{Z}/p\mathbf{Z} with p>0p > 0, since Z\mathbf{Z} is not simple, and pp is necessarily prime.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
