Algebra, chapter II, § 1. Modules

Let u:M→Nu : M \to N be an AA-module homomorphism. If MM or NN is of finite length, so is Im⁡(u)\operatorname{Im}(u). If MM is of finite length, so is Ker⁡(u)\operatorname{Ker}(u) and

long⁡(Im⁡(u))+long⁡(Ker⁡(u))=long⁡(M). \operatorname{long}(\operatorname{Im}(u)) + \operatorname{long}(\operatorname{Ker}(u)) = \operatorname{long}(M).
If NN is of finite length, so is Coker⁡(u)\operatorname{Coker}(u) and
long⁡(Im⁡(u))+long⁡(Coker⁡(u))=long⁡(N). \operatorname{long}(\operatorname{Im}(u)) + \operatorname{long}(\operatorname{Coker}(u)) = \operatorname{long}(N).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
