Algebra, chapter III, § 4. Tensor products of algebras

Let (Ei)i∈I, (Ei′)i∈I(E_i)_{i \in I},\ (E'_i)_{i \in I} be two families of AA*-algebras with the same indexing set and, for all* i∈Ii \in I, let ui:Ei→Ei′u_i : E_i \to E'_i be an algebra homomorphism. Then there exists one and only one AA*-algebra homomorphism* u:⨂i∈IEi→⨂i∈IEi′u : \bigotimes_{i \in I} E_i \to \bigotimes_{i \in I} E'_i such that, for all i∈Ii \in I, the diagram

Ei→uiEi′∣∣⨂i∈IEi→u⨂i∈IEi′ \begin{array}{ccc} E_i & \xrightarrow{u_i} & E'_i \\ | & & | \\ \bigotimes_{i \in I} E_i & \xrightarrow{u} & \bigotimes_{i \in I} E'_i \end{array}

is commutative, fif_i and fi′f'_i denoting the canonical homomorphisms.

It suffices to apply Proposition 8 to the homomorphism fi′∘uif'_i \circ u_i.

The homomorphism uu defined in the Corollary to Proposition 8 is denoted by ⨂i∈Iui\bigotimes_{i \in I} u_i. If JJ is any subset of II, Proposition 8 can be applied to the family (fi)i∈J(f_i)_{i \in J} of canonical homomorphisms fi:Ei→⨂i∈IEi=Ef_i : E_i \to \bigotimes_{i \in I} E_i = E; a canonical homomorphism EJ→EE_J \to E is derived which is also denoted by fJf_J and which, when JJ is finite, coincides with the homomorphism denoted thus above.

Now let (xi)i∈I(x_i)_{i \in I} be an element of ∏i∈IEi\prod_{i \in I} E_i such that the family (xi−ei)i∈I(x_i - e_i)_{i \in I} has finite support HH. It is immediate that, if JJ and J′J' are two finite subsets of II containing HH, then

fJ((xi)i∈J)=fJ′((xi)i∈J′). f_J((x_i)_{i \in J}) = f_{J'}((x_i)_{i \in J'}).

The common value of the fJ((xi)i∈J)f_J((x_i)_{i \in J}) for the finite subsets J⊃HJ \supset H of II is denoted by ⨂i∈Ixi\bigotimes_{i \in I} x_i.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
