Algebra, chapter V, § 14. Transcendental extensions

— Let K,EK, E and FF be three fields such that K⊂E⊂FK \subset E \subset F. If SS is a transcendence basis of EE over KK and TT a transcendence basis of FF over EE, then S∩TS \cap T is empty and S∪TS \cup T is a transcendence basis of FF over KK.

For FF is algebraic over E(T)E(T); moreover, E(T)E(T) is algebraic over the field K(S∪T)=K(S)(T)K(S \cup T) = K(S)(T), because EE is algebraic over K(S)K(S) (VV, p. 18, Cor. 2); therefore (VV, p. 19, Prop. 3) FF is algebraic over K(S∪T)K(S \cup T). On the other hand, TT being algebraically free over EE is so afortioria fortiori over K(S)K(S), hence (VV, p. 107, Prop. 4) S∪TS \cup T is algebraically free over KK and S∩T=∅S \cap T = \varnothing.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
