Algebra, chapter VII, § 4. Finitely generated modules over a principal ideal domain

— Let AA be a commutative ring, and let EE be a direct sum of nn cyclic modules A/akA / a_k, where the aka_k satisfy a1⊂a2⊂…⊂ana_1 \subset a_2 \subset \ldots \subset a_n. Then, for 1≤p≤n1 \leq p \leq n, the ideal apa_p is the annihilator of ⋀pE\bigwedge^p E; if an≠Aa_n \neq A then ⋀pE≠0\bigwedge^p E \neq 0 for 1≤p≤n1 \leq p \leq n and ⋀mE=0\bigwedge^m E = 0 for m>nm > n.

Indeed, in the notation of Prop. 1, we have ap=as(H)a_p = a_{s(H)}, where s(H)s(H) denotes the greatest element of the subset HH. Since s(H)≥ps(H) \geq p for every pp-element subset HH, and since s(H)=ps(H) = p for H={1,…,p}H = \{ 1, \ldots, p \}, it follows that apa_p is the intersection of ara_r, as HH varies over the set of pp-element subsets of (1,n)(1, n); the ideal apa_p is thus indeed the annihilator of ⋀pE\bigwedge^p E, by Prop. 1.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
