Algebra, chapter VII, § 4. Finitely generated modules over a principal ideal domain

— Let AA be a principal ideal domain, let PP be a system of representatives of irreducible elements of AA and let MM be a finitely generated AA-module. Then there exist positive integers m(0)m(0) and m(pn)m(p^n) (p∈P,n>0p \in P, n > 0), uniquely determined by MM and zero except for finitely many of them, such that MM is isomorphic to the direct sum of Am(0)A^{m(0)} and the (A/(pn))m(pn)(A/(p^n))^{m(p^n)} (p∈P,n>0p \in P, n > 0).

The existence of the integers m(0)m(0) and m(pn)m(p^n) (p∈P,n>0p \in P, n > 0) follows from Prop. 8. The integer m(0)m(0) is uniquely determined: it is the rank of the free module which is the quotient of MM by its torsion submodule. Finally, the pp-primary component of MM is isomorphic to the direct sum of the (A/(pn))m(pn)(A/(p^n))^{m(p^n)}; since the family of ideals (pn)(p^n) (n≥1n \geq 1) is totally ordered by inclusion, the uniqueness of the m(pn)m(p^n) follows from the Cor. to Prop. 2 of VII, p. 16.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
