Algebra, chapter VII, § 5. Endomorphisms of vector spaces

— In the notation of Cor. 1, let q(X)q(X) be the minimal polynomial of uu; then q(X)q(X) divides χu(X)\chi_u(X) and χu(X)\chi_u(X) divides q(X)nq(X)^n. In particular the minimal polynomial and the characteristic polynomial of uu have the same roots, and these are the eigenvalues of uu.

Since q(X)=qn(X)q(X) = q_n(X), it is clear that q(X)q(X) divides χu(X)\chi_u(X). On the other hand, since each qiq_i divides qq, their product χu\chi_u divides qnq^n.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
