Algebra, chapter VII, § 5. Endomorphisms of vector spaces

Let EE be a finite dimensional vector space over a commutative field KK and let uu be an endomorphism of EE. Then uu has a Jordan decomposition (us,un)(u_s, u_n) if and only if the eigenvalues of uu are separable over KK. Moreover the decomposition is unique, the characteristic polynomials of uu and usu_s coincide, and there exist polynomials P,Q∈K[X]P, Q \in K[X], with no constant terms, such that us=P(u)u_s = P(u) and un=Q(u)u_n = Q(u).

A) Let us first of all prove the following special case

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
