Algebra, chapter VII, § 5. Endomorphisms of vector spaces

Let uu and vv be two commuting endomorphisms of E which have Jordan decompositions. a) The endomorphisms u,v,us,vs,un,vn,v,u, v, u_s, v_s, u_n, v_n, v, all commute. b) The endomorphisms u+vu + v and uvuv have Jordan decompositions with

(u+v)s=us+vs,(u+v)n=un+vn,(uv)s=usvs, (u + v)_s = u_s + v_s , \quad (u + v)_n = u_n + v_n , \quad (uv)_s = u_s v_s ,
(uv)n=usvn+unvs+unvn. (uv)_n = u_s v_n + u_n v_s + u_n v_n .
Part a) follows from Cor. 2. To prove part b) it is enough to notice that us+vsu_s + v_s and usvsu_s v_s are absolutely semi-simple (VII, p. 43, Cor.) and that un+vnu_n + v_n and usvn+unvs+unvnu_s v_n + u_n v_s + u_n v_n are nilpotent (as sums of commuting nilpotent endomorphisms).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
