Integration, chapter IV, § 1. Upper integral of a positive function

— Given a positive measure μ\mu on XX, for every open set G⊂XG \subset X the upper integral μ∗(φG)\mu^*(\varphi_G) is called the outer measure of GG and is denoted μ∗(G)\mu^*(G).

The outer measure of an open set GG is thus a number ≥0\geq 0, finite or equal to +∞+\infty. Clearly μ∗(∅)=0\mu^*(\varnothing) = 0. Moreover, μ∗(X)=∥μ∥,\mu^*(X) = \| \mu \|, as is shown by formula (22) of Ch. III, §1, No. 8.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
