Integration, chapter IV, § 2. Negligible functions and sets

— If ff and gg are two functions ⩾0\geqslant 0 (finite or not) defined on XX such that f(x)=g(x)f(x) = g(x) almost everywhere, then ∣μ∣∗(f)=∣μ∣∗(g)|\mu|^*(f) = |\mu|^*(g).

Let NN be the negligible set of points x∈Xx \in X such that f(x)≠g(x)f(x) \neq g(x). The functions inf⁡(f,g)\inf(f, g) and sup⁡(f,g)\sup(f, g) being equal except at the points of NN, it suffices to prove the proposition assuming f⩽gf \leqslant g. Let hh be the function equal to +∞+\infty at the points of NN, and to 0 on CNCN; then f⩽g⩽f+hf \leqslant g \leqslant f + h, thus

∣μ∣∗(f)⩽∣μ∣∗(g)⩽∣μ∣∗(f+h)⩽∣μ∣∗(f)+∣μ∣∗(h)=∣μ∣∗(f) |\mu|^*(f) \leqslant |\mu|^*(g) \leqslant |\mu|^*(f + h) \leqslant |\mu|^*(f) + |\mu|^*(h) = |\mu|^*(f)

(since hh is negligible), whence the proposition.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
