Integration, V, p. 7, § 1. Essential upper integral
Let and be two -moderated mappings with values in ; if and are equal locally almost everywhere to a same function , then almost everywhere.
For, let be the set of such that ; is locally negligible and moderated, therefore negligible (Cor. 1 of Prop. 7).
We shall denote by (or simply , , if no confusion can result) the set of mappings of into , such that there exists a function equal to locally almost everywhere. Since the number depends only on by the Lemma, we will write . The function is obviously a semi-norm on , and we shall always assume that is equipped with the topology defined by . The closure of 0 for this topology is the space ; the relations , (Lemma) show that the normed space may be canonically identified with , which is complete (Ch. IV, §3, No. 3, Prop. 5); therefore is itself complete.
We shall similarly denote by (or , or ) the subspace of ; one can also characterize as the subspace of constituted by the measurable mappings (Ch. IV, §5, No. 6, Th. 5).
The normed space may be canonically identified with ; is therefore complete. Its elements are called the p-th power essentially integrable functions, this terminology being justified by the following proposition:
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
