Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter II, § 1. Enveloping bigebra of a Lie algebra

The set P(E)P(E) of primitive elements of EE is a Lie subalgebra of EE.

If x,yx, y are in P(E)P(E), then

c(xy)=c(x)c(y)=(x⊗1+1⊗x)(y⊗1+1⊗y)=xy⊗1+1⊗xy+x⊗y+y⊗x, \begin{align*} c(xy) &= c(x)c(y) = (x \otimes 1 + 1 \otimes x)(y \otimes 1 + 1 \otimes y) \\ &= xy \otimes 1 + 1 \otimes xy + x \otimes y + y \otimes x, \end{align*}
whence
c([x,y])=[x,y]⊗1+1⊗[x,y]. c([x, y]) = [x, y] \otimes 1 + 1 \otimes [x, y].

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
