General Topology, chapter IV, § 5. Real-valued functions

*In the product space R‾X\overline{\mathbf{R}}^X the upper envelope sup⁡i∈Ifi\sup_{i \in I} f_i of a family of real-valued functions (fi)i∈I(f_i)_{i \in I} is the limit, with respect to the directed set F(I)\mathfrak{F}(I) of finite subsets of II, of the mapping H→sup⁡i∈HfiH \to \sup_{i \in H} f_i [which maps each finite subset HH of II to the upper envelope of the finite subfamily (fi)i∈H(f_i)_{i \in H}].

This follows immediately from Proposition 5 of no. 4 and from Chapter I, § 7, no. 6, Corollary 1 to Proposition 10.

We may therefore write

sup⁡i∈Ifi=lim⁡H∈F(I)(sup⁡i∈Hfi). \sup_{i \in I} f_i = \lim_{H \in \mathfrak{F}(I)} (\sup_{i \in H} f_i).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
