General Topology, chapter IX, § 6. Polish spaces, Souslin spaces, Borel sets

Let XX be a Souslin space, let YY be a Hausdorff space and let f:X→Yf : X \to Y be a continuous mapping. Then the inverse image under ff of a Souslin subspace AA of YY is a Souslin subspace of XX.

Let P,QP, Q be Polish spaces, let gg be a continuous mapping of PP onto XX and let hh be a continuous mapping of QQ onto AA. Let RR be the set of all (x,y)∈P×Q(x, y) \in P \times Q such that f(g(x))=h(y)f(g(x)) = h(y); RR is closed in P×QP \times Q and is therefore a Polish subspace of P×QP \times Q (no. 1, Proposition 1). Let φ\varphi be the restriction to RR of the projection pr1pr_1. Then the subspace f‾−1(A)\overline{f}^{-1}(A) of XX is the image of RR under the continuous mapping g∘φg \circ \varphi and is therefore a Souslin space.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
