General Topology, chapter IX, § 6. Polish spaces, Souslin spaces, Borel sets

Let ff be a continuous mapping of a topological space XX into a topological space YY. Then the inverse image under ff of every Borel set in YY is a Borel set in XX.

Let I\mathfrak{I} be the set of all subsets AA of YY such that f−1(A)f^{-1}(A) is a Borel set in XX. It follows immediately that I\mathfrak{I} is a σ\sigma-algebra which contains all the closed subsets of YY; hence I\mathfrak{I} contains all Borel sets in YY.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
