General Topology, chapter IX, § 6. Polish spaces, Souslin spaces, Borel sets

Let φ\varphi be a continuous mapping of a Hausdorff space K into a Hausdorff space X, and let f be a capacity on X. If for each subset A of K we put g(A)=f(φ(A))g(A) = f(\varphi(A)), then g is a capacity on K; moreover, if A is capacitable with respect to g, then φ(A)\varphi(A) is capacitable with respect to f.

It is clear that gg satisfies axioms (CAI)(\mathrm{CA}_I) and (CAII)(\mathrm{CA}_{II}). On the other hand, let (Cn)(C_n) be a decreasing sequence of compact subsets of KK, and let C=⋂nCnC = \bigcap_n C_n; the sets φ(C)\varphi(C) are compact, and their intersection is φ(C)\varphi(C); for this intersection certainly contains φ(C)\varphi(C), and if x∈φ(Cn)x \in \varphi(C_n) for all nn, then the sets φ1‾(x)∩Cn\overline{\varphi^1}(x) \cap C_n form a decreasing sequence of non-empty compact subsets of KK, and therefore their intersection is not empty. We have therefore f(φ(C))=inf⁡nf(φ(Cn))f(\varphi(C)) = \inf_n f(\varphi(C_n)), that is g(C)=inf⁡ng(Cn)g(C) = \inf_n g(C_n); thus gg satisfies axiom (CAIII)(\mathrm{CA}_{III}) and is therefore a capacity on KK.

Now let AA be a subset of KK which is capacitable with respect to gg; if a<f(φ(A))=g(A)a < f(\varphi(A)) = g(A), then there is a compact set C⊂AC \subset A such that g(C)≥ag(C) \geq a; thus φ(C)\varphi(C) is a compact set contained in φ(A)\varphi(A), and f(φ(C))≥af(\varphi(C)) \geq a. This shows that φ(A)\varphi(A) is capacitable with respect to ff, and completes the proof of Proposition 15 and hence of Theorem 5.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
