Let A be a ring, J an ideal of finite type of A and M an A-module. Let Ω denote the set of maximal ideals of A belonging to Supp(M) and containing J. Then
profA(J;M)=p∈Spec(A)infprofAp(Jp;Mp)=m∈ΩinfprofAm(Jm;Mm)
Let x=(xi)i∈I be a finite generating family of J. Let p be a prime ideal of A; the ideal Jp is generated by the image xp of the family (xi) in Ap. For every p≥0, the Ap-module (Hp(x,M))p is isomorphic to Hp(xp,Mp) (Lemma 1); in view of Theorem 1, we therefore have profA(J;M)≤infp∈Spec(A)profAp(Jp;Mp)≤infm∈ΩprofAm(Jm;Mm).
Let p be an integer strictly less than profAm(JAm;Mm) for every m∈Ω. Then Hp(xm,Mm)=0 for every maximal ideal m of A: this results from Theorem 1 if m∈Ω, from the fact that Mm=0 if m∈Supp(M), and from the fact that the ideal JAm, which annihilates Hp(xm,Mm) (A, X, p. 148, Cor. 2), is equal to Am if m∈V(J). Hence (Hp(x,M))m=0 for every maximal ideal m of A, which implies Hp(x,M)=0 (II, § 3, No. 3, Cor. 2 of Theorem 1). The proposition then results from Theorem 1.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
