Commutative Algebra, chapter X, § 1. Profondeur

For every MM-regular sequence (x1,…,xr)(x_1, \ldots, x_r) of elements of JJ, the following properties are equivalent:

(i) one has r=prof⁡A(J;M)r = \operatorname{prof}_A(J; M) ; (ii) the sequence (x1,…,xr)(x_1, \ldots, x_r) is maximal among the MM-regular sequences formed of elements of JJ ; (iii) the AA-module M/(x1M+…+xrM)M/(x_1M + \ldots + x_rM) has a nonzero element annihilated by JJ ; (iv) one has Ass⁡(M/(x1M+…+xrM))∩V(J)≠∅\operatorname{Ass}(M/(x_1M + \ldots + x_rM)) \cap V(J) \neq \varnothing.

The equivalence of (i) and (ii) follows from Theorem 2; the equivalence of (ii), (iii) and (iv) follows from Remark 2 of No. 1 applied to the AA-module M/(x1M+…+xrM)M/(x_1M + \ldots + x_rM).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
