Commutative Algebra, chapter X, § 1. Profondeur
Under the hypotheses of Theorem 3, suppose that is irreducible (resp. that is an integral domain) for every ; then is irreducible (resp. is an integral domain) for every .
Let be the (finite) family of irreducible components of . Let ; since is irreducible, contains only one minimal prime ideal of , and therefore belongs to only one of the (II, § 4, No. 3, Cor. 2 of Prop. 14). The subsets are closed subsets of , pairwise disjoint, non-empty since is dense in , and irreducible by II, § 4, No. 1, Prop. 7; they are therefore the connected components of . Their closures are the connected components of (Cor. 1). This proves that the connected components of are irreducible, and therefore that is irreducible for every (No. 8).
Suppose that is an integral domain for every . Let . Since is irreducible, the nilradical of is the unique minimal prime ideal of ; it therefore belongs to (IV, § 1, No. 3, Cor. 1 of Prop. 7), and consequently is equal to , where is a prime ideal associated with (IV, § 1, No. 2, Cor. of Prop. 5). One has (Remark 1) and (loc. cit.); since is an integral domain, is zero, and therefore is an integral domain.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
