Commutative Algebra, chapter X, § 7. Algèbres lisses
Let be a ring, a formally smooth -algebra, and a finitely generated ideal of ; put .
a) Let be a prime ideal of and let be the (prime) ideal of such that . The following conditions are equivalent: (i) the -algebra is formally smooth; (ii) there exists such that the -algebra is formally smooth; (iii) the -linear mapping
b) The set of prime ideals of which satisfy the equivalent conditions of a) is open in . In order that be formally smooth over , it is necessary and sufficient that every prime (resp. maximal) ideal of satisfy these conditions.
c) Suppose that is noetherian. The conditions of a) are also equivalent to: (v) the -algebra is formally smooth for the -adic topology. Moreover, under the conditions of (iv), the ideal is completely secant and the sequence is completely secant for .
Put and . The -module is of finite type, and the -module is projective (No. 5, Corollary 3 of Theorem 2). For every multiplicative subset of , the -algebra is formally smooth (No. 2, Proposition 4, a)). By Lemma 4, conditions (i) and (ii) are therefore equivalent respectively to (i') the mapping has a -linear retraction; (ii') there exists such that the mapping has a -linear retraction.
Prop. 9 of No. 8 applied to the ring and to the homomorphism implies the equivalence of conditions (i'), (ii'') and (iii), and also entails the assertions of b) (using again Lemma 4). Moreover, (iii) is equivalent to: (iii') the mapping deduced from is injective, whereas (iv) may be written: (iv') there exist an integer , elements of whose images generate the ideal of , and elements of such that .
Since the -module is projective (No. 5, Cor. 3 of Th. 2), Prop. 9 of No. 8, applied to the ring and to the homomorphism , yields the equivalence of (iii') and (iv').
Finally, suppose the ring noetherian. It is clear that (i) implies (v). Under assumption (v), Lemma 3 shows that the mapping
is injective, whence (iii).
Under the conditions of (iv), one has (No. 9, Prop. 8). By Th. 2 of No. 5, the ideal is completely secant, and the sequence is completely secant for (, No. 3, Cor. 2 of Th. 1). This proves c).
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
