Algebra, chapter IX, § 1. Formes sesquilinéaires

Suppose that AA is a field, and let Φ\Phi be a bilinear form (resp. sesquilinear form for JJ) on E×FE \times F; for E/F0E/F^0 to be of finite dimension, it is necessary and sufficient that F/E0F/E^0 be of finite dimension, and these dimensions are then equal.

Indeed, let Φ1\Phi_1 be the non-degenerate form associated with Φ\Phi, on (E/F0)×(F/E0)(E/F^0) \times (F/E^0) (No. 3). Suppose that E/F0E/F^0 is of finite dimension nn; since the linear mapping dΦ1d_{\Phi_1} from F/E0F/E^0 (resp. (F/E0)J(F/E^0)^J) into (E/F0)∗(E/F^0)^* is injective, F/E0F/E^0 is of finite dimension n′≤nn' \leq n; considering sΦ1s_{\Phi_1}, we see similarly that n≤n′n \leq n'.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
