Algebra, chapter IX, § 1. Formes sesquilinéaires

Soient AA a field, EE a vector space over AA, Φ\Phi a sesquilinear form on EE, uu an endomorphism of EE.

a) For there to exist one and only one endomorphism u∗u^* of EE such that Φ(u(x),y)=Φ(x,u∗(y))\Phi(u(x), y) = \Phi(x, u^*(y)) for x,yx, y in EE, it is necessary and sufficient that dΦd_\Phi be injective and that u(dΦ(E))⊂dΦ(E)u(d_\Phi(E)) \subset d_\Phi(E).

b) Give an example where EE is of infinite dimension and dΦd_\Phi is injective, but where u(dΦ(E))u(d_\Phi(E)) is not contained in dΦ(E)d_\Phi(E).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
