Algebra, chapter IX, § 1. Formes sesquilinéaires

Let AA be a field, E1,E2E_1, E_2 two vector spaces not reduced to 0 over AA, Φ1\Phi_1 (resp. Φ2\Phi_2) a non-degenerate sesquilinear form on E1E_1 (resp. E2E_2) for an antiautomorphism J1J_1 (resp. J2J_2) of AA. Let uu be a linear mapping of E1E_1 onto E2E_2 such that the relation Φ1(x,y)=0\Phi_1(x, y) = 0 implies Φ2(u(x),u(y))=0\Phi_2(u(x), u(y)) = 0.

a) Show that uu is a bijection of E1E_1 onto E2E_2. (If u(0)u(0) were not reduced to 0, show that there would exist in E1E_1 two vectors a,ba, b such that u(a)≠0,u(b)=0u(a) \neq 0, u(b) = 0 and Φ1(a,b)≠0\Phi_1(a, b) \neq 0; if HH is the hyperplane of the x∈E1x \in E_1 such that Φ1(a,x)=0\Phi_1(a, x) = 0, remark that one would have u(H)=E2u(H) = E_2.

b) Show that if dim E1⩾2E_1 \geqslant 2, there exists α∈A\alpha \in A such that one has Φ2(u(x),u(y))=Φ1(x,y)α\Phi_2(u(x), u(y)) = \Phi_1(x, y)\alpha whatever x,yx, y in E1E_1. (For every y∈E1y \in E_1, show that there exists an element m(y)∈Am(y) \in A such that Φ2(u(x),u(y))=Φ1(x,y)m(y)\Phi_2(u(x), u(y)) = \Phi_1(x, y)m(y) for every x∈E1x \in E_1, and that if yy and y′y' are linearly independent in E1E_1, one has m(y+y′)=m(y)=m(y′)m(y + y') = m(y) = m(y')).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
