Algebra, chapter IX, § 10. Angles

The direct similitudes u=a+bνu = a + b \nu (a,ba, b in Λ\Lambda, b≠0b \neq 0) whose square is a homothety are the homotheties and the scalar multiples bνb \nu of ν\nu, since (a+bν)2=(a2+δb2)+2abν(a + b \nu)^2 = (a^2 + \delta b^2) + 2ab \nu. The latter are none other than the automorphisms of the vector space EE which transform every vector into a vector orthogonal to it; in fact, the matrix of such an automorphism is necessarily of the form (0cd0)\begin{pmatrix} 0 & c \\ d & 0 \end{pmatrix} (c,dc, d in Λ\Lambda), and the condition that the vector λe1+μe2\lambda e_1 + \mu e_2 be transformed into an orthogonal vector is then written λμ(dα2+cα1)=0\lambda \mu (d \alpha_2 + c \alpha_1) = 0.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
